Show and tell.

Studiofin
The very rectangular studio and super awesome farm table.

Skirtfin
One of the confoundedly difficult fall skirts+knee-socks (in bad lighting).

Happy Friday, my dears. I literally have 12 minutes to post today before I run out the door, but as was requested, I couldn't resist a little show and tell. I hope to actually have artwork hung in the studio soon; it's a very blank canvas at the moment. The table is counter height, which is why I'm convinced it's previous life was as a kitchen work table. My back will be very grateful for the end of hunched over cutting. There's an industrial shelving rack in the right corner that I couldn't fit in the frame, but it's my favorite part of the room. My junk supplies are actually hidden in pretty storage bins now (thank you Ikea) and don't look monstrous. The floor to ceiling curtains hide the washer/dryer, the ironing business, and all the bulky supplies like stuffing...and by closing them, I can just pretend that the laundry doesn't exist even while it piles up and threatens to take over the room.

Although you can't tell from this shot, the skirt is much more A-line than I wanted, and next time I'll be making a straighter version. But I love the single pleat. I freakin love it. And the flat front. There is an elastic waistband in the back, but I still have to do a little shimmy to get the darn thing over my behind. Oops. This is the first item of clothing I have ever made. Ever. And because I'm a novice, it was a difficult project to undertake without a pattern. I kept forgetting that it had to fit. I may do a tutorial later, but first I have to figure out how the heck I got it to work in the first place. Really, I have no idea.

I hope you all have a marvelous and relaxing weekend. I'll be working a late shift tonight and an early shift tomorrow, but am looking forward to a Sunday of laziness. Wishing you well...

All love,
*Andrea

i love that work room! such a blank canvas, very monastic. that is a fantastic skirt for a first timer - great job!

Oh, that table, where on earth did you find that treasure??? I'd be in your house sewing while you were gone if I were closer. It is a wonderful space with so much light, and the skirt aint too shabby either! My washer and dryer have resided behind floor to ceilings for years now without any complaints. And, oh, yes, are you wearing penny loafers with those knee socks?? Just a fantasy of my dear husbands, I'll let your mind wander without details!!!! Enjoy your weekend.

yes! the fair is running stron on sunday - i'm not sure what the admission is though.... and if you don't see my pieces right away - ASK them. they change the room around all the time - or hide things away - so :) if you make it let me know what you think of the whole thing. i'm so interested in MANY of th galleries showing.....

have a great weekend!

love the skirt and knee sock combo! and that table, wow.

GREAT JOB ON THE SKIRT ANDY!
Thanks for the phone call today, it was so good to hear you. Sorry we got cut short... although I keep telling myself it's ok, I can always stalk you over the internet.

[insert maniacal laughter here]

sosser: you know, 'monastic' just might be the perfect word to describe it. :) i definately tend toward the meditative and minimalist, but think i may've gone overboard with the hiding of the clutter here. i think it's time to hang the art and make it a bit more vibrant...

jeanne: i completely forgot to mention that the table came from the antique store below our apt--my very first purchase there. the owner, who's name is also andrea, was using it to hold odds and ends and her customers (who tend to be very shi-shi) weren't interested in it: 'too rustic.' i offered to take it off her hands. :) and yes. yes i AM wearing penny loafers. but they have a slight heel and funky stiching. so they're modern penny loafers, i guess? shhh. don't tell the husbands.

sheri: thank you! i think me and mr. old/tall table were meant to be together.

lisa: thanks for the pleat love. it makes a nice swooshing sound when you kick your knees out. aaron and i are definately going to the art fair tomorrow (a little sunday afternoon date), and i'll write you all about it soon.

jen: i have never been able to resist the one/two punch of the skirt-kneesock combo. they put the chic in geek. :)

and nik: i expect nothing less from you than good old-fashioned internet stalking.

that's such a great use of space for a work room. must find one at my new house.

love the skirt, too. i'm very much a skirt and boot girl in the fall, and your look warms the cockles of my heart :)

p.s. congrats on the job!

p.p.s. on learning new things...i have no idea how things get done, either. but if it looks good, and it works well, i say, don't mess with it. :)

Absolutely LOVE the studio space - beautiful! (It does however make me painfully aware of how cluttered my studio currently is!) And I was totally inspired to pick up some knee socks while shopping at Target yesterday :) Awesome job on the skirt. I've been so eager for fall and fall clothing and now this week we are having 80+ degree weather here again... (Congrats on the new job too!)

A great space to work and a super looking table too. And whilst on a roll, a brilliant pleat to boot.
see you, grache xo

finally catching up. love your farm table and your studio space. and that skirt. i think it's adorable. xo

That's so funny -- I made a skirt just like that a few weeks ago, except with two pleats, one over each leg.

Great minds think alike, neh?
