Hello, friends.
Yes, I'm still here. Feeling a little overwhelmed lately. Okay, a lot overwhelmed. But let's not talk about that, and instead talk about how I am lying around on the couch, eating chocolate digestives and dreaming of upcoming paid vacation time. Aaron and I are planning a quick trip to Seattle for our wedding anniversary in early December. Godspeed December. Godspeed. I can't, however, seem to find us a place to stay that is reasonably priced, and also not heinous. I am confused. When did hotels start charging $300 a night for shared bathrooms? I must have missed something. Seriously. Wow. (Ace Hotel, I'm talking to you.) I am afraid that without your collective knowledge, friends, we will be lost. I would be so so grateful for any suggestions you might have on places to stay, visit, eat, and the like.
And also, because it would be cruel of me NOT to share this with you: have a look. Aaron is on the right. I should note that immediately upon viewing this, he shouted into the next room, 'Hey Everybody! Come and see how good I look!'
And then I had a sudden craving for scotch.
All love,
*Andrea

Fall is the worst time to feel overwhelmed, because then who has time to enjoy the sweet weather?

Fremont and Ballard. Fremont is a quirky area with a lot of personality- it used to be the communist headquarters of the west coast. Now every December they light up the Lenin statue instead of a christmas tree. And make sure that you go to the Fremont Sunday Market- you will absolutely love it. It's filled with handmade crafts, fresh fruits and veggies, and vintage/thrift items. Also, check out the "Ballard Locks" (aka Hiram M. Chittenden Locks) which are located in the botanical gardens. They are amazing, and you can go underground and watch the salmon run upstream in the fish ladder.
Find The Pink Door Cabaret Lounge & Restaurant in Pikes Place Market (it can be very tough to find). And stop by the truffle store there as well, I had a fabulous leek and white truffle soup that I still dream about.
Then there is all the normal stuff downtown, but it all seems pretty generic compared with those listed above. I do really enjoy EMP (Experimental music Project) but it costs around $20 bucks to get in. But if you do go, spring for the extra $3 audio tour headsets, they really make the museum worth it.
I don't have any specific hotel recommendations for you because I visited there- I just lived there, but I know that there is a W Hotel downtown that should be around $250 a night- and they are pretty swanky.
Have a blast!

Oops... I meant to say:
"I don't have any specific hotel recommendations for you because I NEVER visited there- I just lived there."
It makes more sense this way.

Chef crush? Sounds like a very bad tasting soda. One that would taste a lot like rue or confit but "bursting with flavor!!!!" (insert old wrestler screaming)
The only thing that I can say in regards to being overwhelmed is; be exactly where you are at every minute. No where is else is better. Especially when you are lounging and looking out the window at two bees swimming around one another.
Big giant hug to you from me and the Rocket. (he can say pumpkin!!!)

Hotels in Seattle are spendy, no matter how you cut it. I'd suggest looking on Orbitz or some such to see if you can find a deal. The Westing in Seattle is pretty mediocre. Everything else is posh. Whatever you do, stay away from hotels on HWY 99. Oh, and I hear there's a spectacular B&B in Pike Place Market.
Dahlia serves an amazing brunch: http://www.tomdouglas.com/dahlia/index.html
Oh, and be sure to check out the Sculpture Park along the water front.
Have fun!

I'd never realized this before, but now that a website has verified it, your husband is A HANDSOME CANADIAN GOD. Congratulations on... that...

thank you thank you, everyone, for all the wonderful suggestions. we will be checking out every one of them, and luckily snagged a deal on priceline for a swanky hotel (eat your heart out, ace). i'm so excited to see everything... olympic sculpture park, and the library, and the ballard locks, and dahlia, and the pink door. i've been daydreaming all week.
and on another note: aaron is blushing. hard. you guys crack me up. and caroline, yes! i kept thinking of a soda tasting like sweat and tears and truffle oil and tattoos.
