Hello, dears! Things are still in full swing over here, and times like these always make we wonder why the words 'lazy' and 'summer' have ever been used in the same sentence. But I am woefully behind on book news (SO.MUCH.NEWS.), and I knew I would need to stop in to give the little blog some much needed love before all this craziness commences. So onward and upward. The scoops!
- I never tire of posts written about the Babysitter's Club. Really. I don't. This one just proves my theory that the BSC books, in all their horror and glory, were as important to a whole generation of readers, as Harry Potter, Twilight, or any other literary phenomenon. Plus, I love Sarah Brown. (Dooce)
- Get Smart. Comediennes Amy Poehler, Meredith Walker, Amy Miles, and other equally fantastic guest posters, have launched a new website for teenage girls, called Smart Girls at the Party. There you will find videos, news, music, book-recommendations and more, and I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO TELL YOU WHY THIS IS AWESOME. You can also follow them on Twitter!
- Me too. Last week, author Stephanie Meyer made thousands of Twi-hards cry into their soup, with the announcement that she is burnt out on vampires. (Bookilicious)
- Fighting off the weenuses and hosebags. Maureen Johnson (a completely different sort of Y.A. author) has written a really beautiful manifesto about writing, branding, and blogging, and it pretty much sums up how I feel about book-blogging and the internet in general. (Damn, Gina)
-Wow. The newest trailer for part one of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows makes me want to clap like a toddler.
- If I had a hammer. This project (photo above), by Liz, from Sticks and Bricks, is making my heart swell. Each letter has been hammered individually. For any book-lover short on cash, but not necessarily creativity, this is the wonderful idea for birthdays, holiday's, etcetera. It does not hurt that the above is one of my favorite poems (A Summer Day), by one of my favorite poets (Mary Oliver). I really want to do this with a Shel Silverstein poem, or maybe a few lines from Where the WIld Things Are, as an upcoming baby shower gift. (Design Sponge)
... which makes me very curious to know, of all the words in all the books in the world, what would you be willing to hammer into a piece of furniture? Austen? Shakespeare? Seuss? I'm sure I will be more than surprised by the answers.
Be it crazy or lazy, wishing you a happy week, and happy reading.
